===== myFiles ===== Every myIchthus user account comes equipped with a file repository. This allows you to upload files of any type and share them with others. **Uploading a file ** Click on the myFiles item on your myIchthus toolbar. You'll be brought to your personal root folder, which will probably initially be empty. If you like, you can upload a file straight from here: Click on Add a file or a folder on the submenu. Scroll down until you see the heading, Upload a file. Check your disk space. Elgg will tell you how much you've been allocated, and how much you have to use. Click the Browse button to find the file you want to upload on your computer. Optionally, add a title and/or description. Select an access restriction. For more on this, see the access controls page. Enter some descriptive keywords, separated with commas, so that other people will be able to find your file. For example, if you were uploading an picture from a concert, you might tag it with concert, pictures, music. Check the box verifying that you understand you're sharing the file with other users of the system, and that you have the legal right to share this file. If you don't, the system will not let you upload the file. Click Upload. If you had enough space, the file will have uploaded, and the users you've chosen to share it with will be able to download it. **Creating a folder ** If you upload too many files to your root folder, the screen will get busy and it'll become harder and harder to find anything. It's recommended that you create subfolders to represent the types of content you're uploading. Elgg also supports different types of folder display - for example, if you're creating a folder full of photos, you'll probably want to use a photo gallery folder. Click on Add a file or a folder on the submenu. Type the name of the folder. Select the folder type; the types of folder available to you will likely differ from system to system. The default file folder just displays files and folders as icons; the photo gallery lets you see more of the photos you've uploaded; other types will showcase content in different ways. You can always change this later. Choose the relevant access controls for your folder. Add any keywords to allow the folder to be found within the system. Click Create. **Editing and deleting files and folders ** If you have permissions to delete files and folders, you'll see Edit and Delete links next to their icons. Click on Delete to delete them; click on Edit to edit them. In the latter case, you'll be taken to a specific edit screen that will list the fields described in the sections above. NB: if you delete a folder, any files and folders within it will be moved into its parent.
